Laktoperoksidaz (LPO; E.C. 1.11.1.7); 1940’lı yıllarda Theorell ve arkadaşları tarafından sütten izole edilmiştir ve daha sonraki yıllarda Morrison ve arkadaşları tarafından iyon değişim kromatografisi kullanılarak saflaştırılmıştır. Bu enzim peroksidaz ailesinin bir üyesi olan ve prostetik grup olarak hem grubu içeren bir glikoproteindir. Laktoperoksidaz, yeni doğanların sindirim sisteminden salgılanan patojenlere karşı antimikrobiyal etki gösteren bir oksidoredüktazdır. Bu enzim sütün yanı sıra tükürükte ve gözyaşında da bulunmaktadır.
